● Bachelor's of Science in Computer Engineering - The University of Texas at Austin

I graduated from University of Texas at Austin in 2000 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering. Since then I have been working at 21st Century Technologies, Inc. It's been really interesting to be a part a small company and watch it grow. With a smaller company you have much greater opportunity to influence how the company operates. I have contributed to decisions on the company logo, office space, and web presence. I have participated on the social committee arranging events ranging from playing sports, board games, bowling, and movie outings.

I enjoy working here because the environment is laid back. The holiday and vacation allotment is generous, which gives me time to travel and see the world.

The work we do here is interesting and covers a wide range of research topics. I specialize in writing algorithm and GUI development. I have worked on optimizing truck loading, planning reconnaissance aircraft missions, and data mining for counter terrorism. Another cool aspect of this company is that you can pursue research that interests you.

Austin is a great city to live in. It has a thriving music scene and one of the best movie theaters anywhereThe Alamo Drafthouse.  It also has plenty of outdoor experiences with its many parks, hiking trails, and water activities.

● Bachelor's of Science in Computer Engineering - University of Michigan
● Master's of Science in Computer Engineering - University of Texas

I am a Research Scientist in the R&D division at 21CT. Our work focuses on developing solutions that incorporate state-of-the-art research in the areas of social network analysis, graph theory and textual analysis. My current work involves designing experiments and creating software prototypes to test out new research ideas. The projects I work on appeal to me because I get to help 21CT become a thought leader in a number of areas.

21CT is a great place to work because there is a mix of challenging work, culture and opportunity. The company is very research-minded—everyone is interested in learning—and novel contributions are always welcome. The environment is casual, laid-back and yet everyone here is very focused on doing their best.

Austin is also a great place to live. While it can get a little hot during the summer, there is so much stuff do outside, from finding places to do short hikes to natural spring-fed pools to running/biking trails; the culture of Austin lends itself to wanting to be outside all the time.

● Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering (EE) - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
● Masters of Science and Ph.D. in EE - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

I am a Senior Research Scientist in the Language Processing group at 21st Century Technologies, Inc. My group is working to push the state-of-the-art in natural language processing. One of our key applications is text extraction - using computers to quickly find information encoded in natural language text and store this information in ways that can be efficiently searched. We also investigate ways to apply text extraction anywhere in which text is heavily used.

21CT has been a great place to work for me. I have been able to make important contributions only a short time after I started working here. We are given freedom to research new areas that interest us. Just recently, I contributed on two funding proposals involving speech processing, which is completely new area for 21CT. Because this is a small company, we also have the opportunity to collaborate on projects outside of our groups. This allows us to apply our skills to different problems and gain expertise in new areas.

The work environment at 21CT is something that sets it apart from larger companies that I've worked for. The atmosphere is laid back (flexible work hours, no cubicles), but there a lots of incentives for making an impact in ways like obtaining funding for new research or patenting an idea. The people who work here are friendly and supportive. There is a diversity of technical backgrounds, but everyone is always willing to hear new ways to approach a problem.

Austin is a great city to live in. You get warm weather and lots of ways to spend your free time without a high cost of living.
